RIBBON

Written and Illustrated by Chad Baptiste

It is with great honor and privilege that I present to you my 7th feature comic book: Ribbon. Ribbon is a socio-political action/drama based around a group of disillusioned “neo-revolutionists” that call themselves Sunflower, set to implicitly focus the light of national attention on substandard, greed driven, multinational conglomerate sustained, tax evading lobbying congressional leaders, whose ideals and political platforms are so twisted that their influence not only prescribes a great danger for the future of man, but the Earth itself. They specifically target and eliminate via their hired assassin, the principle financiers of political and presidential candidates, to shed light on just what kind of underhanded motives are utilize to drive the campaigning force behind most, if not all politico individuals.

This book is an intended 3-part graphic novel with a uniquely executed narrative I’ve labeled “Real-Time Auxiliary” storytelling, driven almost entirely by third party dialog from inside the protagonist’s world, and very rarely through shared dialog among characters, to progress the plot forward. Various scenes will depict the protagonist utilizing a portable media device, like a Smartphone, to pick up news and radio broadcasts that not only exhibit, but in certain circumstances illustrate precisely what has transpired in the scene.

The idea is to examine how the vast majority of citizens waywardly channel their information through media, sometimes holistically, regardless of authenticity of their source. The narrative, of course as to not regurgitate personal feelings and affiliations with such a subjective topic, is purposefully designed to force the readers to interpret areas of dialog, which is obscured within the layout, as their own, and not derive their feelings based solely of that depicted by the author.
